The Prophet ﷺ reminds us, “A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim.” This is a very powerful and profound statement. The bond that ties us together is stronger and deeper than blood. It is the bond of faith; belief in Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
Since we are like family we haverights upon each other and responsibilities towards one another. That is why there are so many aḥadīth that encourage engaging in actions and behaviors that strengthen this bond of brotherhood and sisterhood such as spreading salām, exchanging gifts, inviting each other, andsharing in times of happiness and sorrow. Similarly, there are several aḥādīth that highlight actions and behaviors that should be avoided because they lead towards enmity and conflict.
