If you are able to provide iftaar for a fasting person, then you should do so, even if it be by giving him a date to break his fast.

Sayyiduna Zaid Bin Khaalid Al-Juhani رضي الله عنه reports that Rasulullah ﷺ said,

“The one who provides iftaar for a fasting person, he will receive the same reward as he (the fasting person) receives, without the reward of the fasting person decreasing in any way.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi 807)

Allah تعالى says:

“(Fasting Ramadhaan for) a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey (during them – i.e. the fast of Ramadhaan) – then an equal number of other days (are to be made up). And upon those who are able (to fast, but with hardship – such as old age or chronic illness) – a ransom (as substitute) of feeding a poor person (each day). And whoever volunteers good (i.e., excess) – it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:184)

Abu Hurayrah رضى الله عنه narrates:

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Whoever fasted (/ fasts) Ramadhaan, with Imaan (True Faith) and anticipation (of it’s reward), his past sins have been forgiven.”

(Bukhari)

Thirst in Dunya, quench in Akhirah.

Sahl bin Sa’d رضي الله عنه reports that Rasúlullãh ﷺ said,

“Verily, there is a door in Jannah called ‘Rayyan’. None besides the fasting people will be able to enter from it on the Day of Judgement. It will be said, ‘Where are the fasting people?’ They will rise, as no other will be able to enter except them. And once they enter, it will be locked, and no one will enter after them.” [Bukhari]
