Allah تعالى says:

“The month of Ramadhaan (is that) in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights (the crescent of) the month, (Also, “whoever is present during the month.”) let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and (wants) for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that (to) which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:185)

Sahl ibn Sa’d رضى الله عنه narrates:

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Indeed in Al-Jannah (Paradise) is a door called الريان (‘Al-Rayyaan’). Those who (used to) fast will enter it on the day of Resurrection. None except them shall enter it. It will be said (i.e. an announcement will be made:) ‘Where are those who (/used to) observe fasting?’ So they will stand up – none besides them shall enter it. And when they have entered, it will be closed / locked. So no one (else) will enter it.”

(Bukhari)
